No Matter What Happens, You “Can’t Give In” (Liquid Drum & Bass Track)

Time is a funny concept. Blink and the next thing you know, 5 days have passed and you’re wondering what, when, how? But we aren’t here to talk about the illusion of time! We’re here to talk about the 5th track of the Comeback EP called “Can’t Give In”! Let’s crack on πŸ˜‰

Thanks to @gabrielatravels for the artwork!

The Story So Far

To continue with the story of the Comeback EP, let’s have a quick re-cap of what the first four tracks told us. β€œOverload” came about from being overloaded at work, the stress coming from unnecessary places was starting to really weigh us down before we completely felt β€œBrokenβ€œ. We simply couldn’t take the drama of that any more and so we needed to have the all important β€œReality Checkβ€œ, where we had that eureka moment. It is in this moment that we realise we have “Much To Learn“, which, although may feel like an overwhelming and daunting task at first, we know that we simply…

“Can’t Give In”

You will have your own definition of what “not giving in” is but for me, it is all down to grit and determination – finding that extra something that keeps you going against all the odds. Without those characteristics, simple tasks become great challenges. I should know as I’ll always draw on my experiences when I could’ve walked out of my PhD as the proverbial “brown stuff” hit the fan. And when that supply of “brown stuff” was beginning to run out, there was a fresh 18 tonnes of it ready and waiting in the “Goods In” car park – relentless.

But I kept my head down and found that extra something to make it through. When you look back and reflect (very important to do by the way), you can certainly learn a lot when you reach “the other side” – use these experiences to your advantage!

The Wonders of Not Giving In

In more recent times this grit and determination has come about by not giving in to being treated or feeling like a dog, having self-respect and taking myself away from that environment. Since I left, I’ve found myself in a new, positive situation and environment, which I didn’t think possible.

You know how that feeling goes – you stay in a place of such negativity for so long, you think every where is like it… it’s not! Having found this new environment, I’ve been feeling a lot more positive, which leads to more productivity, creativity and all that good stuff I can bring to you guys and girls! The wonders of not giving in hey πŸ™‚ If you can relate to any of this, let me know in the comments!

How To Translate This Into A DnB Track?

So with these feelings of pure grit and determination in mind, I wanted to somehow express that in a Liquid Drum & Bass track. But how? I did have a melody in mind when I first opened up the music software but, as is so often the case, trying to find the right sound for it proved to be difficult. Ironically, I was close to giving in after many hours of searching but out of nowhere, there it was!

Space Synths & Gritty Basslines

That “space synth” I found for the main melody couldn’t have been more appropriate as I felt it depicted that voice deep within us, willing us on and encouraging hope that there is a way through – almost angelic in a way. Then to represent the grit and determination, I wanted to find a gritty bassline sound that accompanied the space synth without overpowering it. In the end, it worked out better than I could have imagined and I hope you enjoy listening to it. Here’s a Spotify link:

If the Spotify embed link doesn’t work, try Choon instead πŸ™‚

Before I say cheerio in this blog, I just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone who has shown their support on this release. Especially @d-vine and @onemedia for having me on their @spotlight.artist show to talk about the whole EP and of course to the @emalliance for their unwavering support and positive vibes. Last but not least, the @steemitbloggers (aka Power House Creatives) for being an inspiration for me to write these blogs as best as I can – stay awesome!

Coming Up Next

Well, it will be my final Platform Project show coming up on the 16th of February before I go off travelling to the other side of the world so expect to hear a bit more about that. I’ll also be on the Spotlight on the Artist show for the final track of the Comeback EP as we complete the story so if you’re around next Friday 15th Feb at 18:00-20:00 UK time, tune in!

Until then, take it easy my friends!
