Packed Release Schedule
There is SO much music getting released right now as I’m making the most of the lockdown period to get the “admin” side of publishing tracks done and dusted. Hopefully this will leave some time to work on finishing up those “works in progress” and dare I say… even more new music?! Right now though, there’s the small matter of the Travel Diaries EP to share with you which is out today – yeaahhh! This is a combination of Liquid Drum & Bass and Liquid Drumstep music with a story to tell – here’s a minimix of them all for you to enjoy whilst you read through:
“Travel Diaries” EP
This 6 track EP is the full collection of the singles that I’ve been steadily releasing over the last couple of months which tell the story of my whole 3 month travel adventure in Australia and New Zealand. In fact, the release date of 10th April 2020 is the 1 year anniversary of when I jetted off to the other side of the world… How that seems like such a long time ago now!
In the last month or two, there have been blogs about what each individual track signifies and I thought it would be a great time to relive it all with you, sharing some pictures of that epic adventure along the way! Before I begin though, I want to say a big thanks to @gabrielatravels who has done an amazing job with the artwork for the whole EP and singles and to the Audio Animals for taking these tracks to their maximum sound potential.
So the EP starts off with a chilled out, Liquid Drumstep track as I wanted to try something a little different with the drum pattern, giving this trance sound with the synths and melodies I used here. There’s nothing too “in your face” to start proceedings.
“Travelling Man” is what my friends used to, and still do, call me due to my adventures but I remember feeling remarkably calm when I eventually got to my friend’s house in Melbourne and just taking everything in as I cruised down the Great Ocean Road for the first time a couple of days later, embarked on an incredible hiking trip.
Always Looking Over You
What can I say, this is pretty much my attempt at a DnB fantasy movie soundtrack as the sounds build and everything comes together in a high energy Drum & Bass crescendo!
Thoughts of my Nana were strong after she moved on to the great party in the sky and I felt her presence looking after me when I went travelling. I was trying to explain this to my mum last night but it’s not an easy one to explain… it’s just a feeling that she’s there. Although this is definitely not in your genre, this one is for you Nana.
As we move through the EP, the energy levels start to pick up and Guardian Angel sets the tone of positive vibes straightaway. I’d say it’s the more energetic version of “Always Looking Over You”, where it really did feel like these angels were in the car with me on the road trips as they were living every minute and enjoying the beautiful scenes that I was seeing too. I particularly felt these angels’ presence as I was travelling on my own in New Zealand.
And then we have Dreamer. Made for those who have accomplished a dream, or even working towards making the dream happen. This is the highest energy Liquid Drum & Bass track of the lot, representing that awesome feeling of accomplishment! If you have a dream, go for it!
That accomplishment for me was when I was standing in among some of the best scenery I’ve seen in my life in New Zealand and Australia. These places I’ve always wanted to visit, the activities and the sense of freedom… Dreamer is how that amazing feeling sounds like for me.
Your Time Is Now
Then we have “Your Time Is Now” which is an important message about living in the moment and not taking anything for granted as you never know when it might be taken away from you. Don’t wait for life to happen to you, your time is now.
I used to let my mild depression and low moods get the better of me, which has happened throughout my life. Things like dwelling on the past, anxiety about the future and playing out a million scenarios which never materialise in my head. The reality is, I can only do is what’s in front of me now. So when I started just focusing a bit more in the present, it made things a lot easier. Add to that being grateful for what I was able to do last year on the other side of the world!
Then the whole EP is rounded off with an introspective liquid DnB track, where I reflect on this truly epic trip. Even after the Sun goes down, the night sky still paints an amazing picture as the stars provide a beautiful backdrop to the landscape.
The bassline in this one is inspired by one of my favourites from High Contrast – Make It Tonight. Obviously, the guys and girls at Hospital Records are top of their game but their artists have had a lot of influence on me too from Logistics, London Elektricity and Nu:Tone to name a few! Anyway, got distracted, you made it to the end, hurray!
The Travel Diaries EP was released on the Electronic Alliance Records label, which is run by the EMA Community, on 10th April 2020 and is available on Spotify playlist if you clicked on the player above. Then there’s iTunes, Beatport and Amazon and even on my website here.
Thanks to everyone who has supported my music on all platforms, I’m just glad you’re enjoying the beats, will do my best to keep them coming!
