“On It Like A Car Bonnet”
Wow, I don’t think I’ve been this productive in the music studio for a very long time as I’ve managed to finally get around to finalising 3 Liquid Drum & Bass tracks I meant to finish in 2013… oops! What took me so long?
Simply put, I was never happy with the production quality of these tracks and in my mind, they just weren’t ready back then in 2013. After spending pretty much the whole last 48 hours propping my eyes open with matchsticks to re-organise and re-structure these 3 projects, pulling my hair out due to project files misbehaving, I don’t think they’ve come out too badly! Bear in mind, these still need the audio engineers to give it a final polish.
Of course, I needed to make a minimix of these 3 tracks to showcase to you so you can listen in to all 3 minutes 46 seconds via the player below. If you can’t see it, click here or on the image below to go to SoundCloud and enjoy this little journey back in time!
So here’s the track order of the minimix so you can get an idea of which songs are which.
Vague Illusion – Life (Nicky Havey remix)
First up is a remix of Vague Illusion‘s original “Life” which has shades of Pendulum from the late 2000s-early 2010s. I just shared this revamped 2020 remix with Ed and it got a double thumbs up so I’m delighted and hope it inspires him to get back in to creating something again! Here’s the original so you can compare:
Nicky Havey – Aura
Next up is Aura, a liquid dnb vs space vs trance vs nostalgia. Probably the best way I can describe it!
I’m so SO happy I got this one done to be honest! Ever since Night Sky was released, I was trying to remember the name of this track as it reminded me a lot of it with that whole nostalgic feeling but imagine my horror when I opened up the Aura music project on my computer to see that there were no effects and the whole track was incomplete… I was up until the early hours of Saturday morning getting this one to near completion.
Nicky Havey – Diminished
And finally, a powerhouse liquid dnb track full of energy that I called “Diminished” for some reason. Think I initially intended this track to be in a horrible diminished chord as an experiment but it turned in to this track! Ironically though, the track name is appropriate because my energy levels are diminished after this weekend’s adventures in the studio!
Phew! No rest for the wicked though as there’s a new release coming out this Friday which I’ll tell you about next time!
In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed the minimix – let me know in the comments!
